Aegiq, a UK-based photonic quantum computing company, and Pixel Photonics, a single-photon detection company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration aims to integrate their technologies on a shared photonic platform to build a scalable and practical quantum computing stack.
The partnership will combine Aegiq’s single-photon sources with Pixel Photonics’ waveguide-integrated superconducting nanowire detectors (WI-SNSPDs). Aegiq’s approach to quantum computer building involves reliably creating photons on demand at GHz clock speeds, routing them through processors, and detecting them – all in telecom wavelengths. Pixel Photonics’ WI-SNSPDs are designed for seamless photonic platform integration, offering detection performance and scalability, with features including ultra-fast detection rates and high sensitivity.
This collaboration is intended to advance quantum technology by combining their expertise to build scalable, real-world quantum systems, with high-performance photon detection identified as a component for enabling quantum applications. Pixel Photonics’ detectors are supported by funding from Quantonation and HTGF, and are part of grants from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Innovation Council (EIC).
