China Launches 504-Qubit Superconducting Quantum Computer, “Tianyan-504”

China has unveiled the “Tianyan-504,” a superconducting quantum computer featuring a 504-qubit “Xiaohong” chip. The system, developed collaboratively by the China Telecom Quantum Group (CTQG), the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Center for Excellence in Quantum Information and Quantum Physics, and QuantumCTek Co., Ltd., represents a domestic milestone in quantum computing technology.

The “Tianyan-504” not only exceeds the 500-qubit threshold but also matches international standards in key performance metrics such as qubit lifetime and readout fidelity, according to CTQG. It will be integrated into China Telecom’s “Tianyan” quantum computing cloud platform, launched in November 2023, which has attracted users from over 50 countries with more than 12 million visits.

This development underscores China’s growing capabilities in quantum research and its ambition to expand access to quantum computing resources globally. CTQG, established in 2023 in Anhui Province, continues to lead China’s quantum technology innovation.
