Chulalongkorn University and AIST (G-QuAT) Sign Five-Year Memorandum of Understanding to Build Bilateral Quantum Technology Ecosystem

Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University and Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST)—operating through its Global Research and Development Center for Business by Quantum-AI Technology (G-QuAT)—have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the deployment of quantum technologies and build regional workforce capabilities. Coordinated via Chulalongkorn’s academic hub, Siam Quantum Square (SQ²), the agreement establishes a bilateral framework for joint research projects, scientific exchange, and industry-oriented quantum compute applications across Southeast Asia.

The strategic partnership provides Thai researchers, academic institutions, and industrial partners with structured access to Japan’s advanced quantum computing infrastructure housed at G-QuAT, including AIST’s hybrid quantum-classical supercomputing systems. In parallel, Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Science is leveraging the collaboration to construct specialized quantum science curricula to address acute workforce shortages in the domestic deep-tech pipeline. By linking Thailand’s manufacturing and supply chain infrastructure with Japanese QPU developments, the alliance aims to establish Southeast Asia as a primary hub for enterprise quantum technology adoption, focusing on quantum-AI integration, drug discovery, materials science, and industrial logistics.
