D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE: QBTS) has announced an agreement with Swiss Quantum Technology SA (SQT) to deploy a D-Wave Advantage2™ annealing quantum computer in Europe. The agreement represents a €10 million ($11.6 million USD) commitment from SQT that will provide them with access to 50% of the available machine time for a 5-year period. The deal also includes an option for SQT to purchase the system in the future. The deployment is intended to support the newly formed Q-Alliance in Italy.
The Advantage2 system is a 4,400+ qubit annealing quantum computer designed for quantum and hybrid quantum applications. It will be accessible to customers via D-Wave’s Leap™ real-time quantum cloud service. The placement of the system supports the Q-Alliance’s objective to empower Italy with new global infrastructure for quantum computing.
Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave, noted that the agreement is a milestone in the company’s effort to expand global access to its fleet of annealing quantum computers. Enrico De Mitri, CEO of SQT, commented that hosting an Advantage2 system reinforces their commitment to meeting the growing need for advanced computation without accelerating energy consumption.
