DOE and Fermilab Partner with Qblox to Commercialize QICK Quantum Control Platform in U.S.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Technology Commercialization has announced a partnership between Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) and Qblox to manufacture and distribute the Quantum Instrumentation Control Kit (QICK) in the United States. The initiative is intended to advance U.S. quantum research and workforce development by transitioning the platform from research to production.

QICK, an open-source platform developed by Fermilab, is designed for managing quantum readouts and controls, playing a role in synchronizing quantum processors and sensors. Under the agreement, Qblox will coordinate QICK manufacturing, distribution, and supply chain operations in the United States. The collaboration is being launched via a Letter of Intent, with plans to formalize under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) and licensing arrangement.

Dr. Darío Gil, DOE Under Secretary for Science, noted that the partnership is a crucial step in strengthening U.S. manufacturing and laying the groundwork for scalable, interoperable quantum systems. Qblox CEO Niels Bultink affirmed the company’s commitment to facilitating the “Made-in-the-USA” platform to strengthen America’s quantum infrastructure and cultivate a highly skilled talent pool.
