Illinois Breaks Ground on Quantum and Microelectronics Park with PsiQuantum as Anchor Tenant

Governor JB Pritzker has announced the groundbreaking of the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) at Quantum Shore on Chicago’s South Side. PsiQuantum is the anchor tenant for the Park, which will also be home to companies including IBM, Diraq, and Infleqtion.

The state of Illinois has invested $500 million in the IQMP, building on a previous $200 million investment to support the Chicago Quantum Exchange (CQE). The Park will house IBM’s Quantum System Two computer and a new National Quantum Algorithm Center (NQAC). DARPA’s Quantum Proving Ground (QPG) will also be part of the Park, with competitively awarded projects being conducted in shared facilities.

The IQMP is designed to serve as an ecosystem for companies, researchers, suppliers, and end users to accelerate the development and commercialization of quantum technologies. The project is intended to position Illinois as a leader in quantum innovation, with a focus on driving economic impact and job creation. Dr. Harley Johnson, Executive Director and CEO of the IQMP, noted that with the companies already on board, the park is becoming the largest quantum ecosystem in North America.

The project is also focused on community development and workforce training for the South Chicago community. It includes plans for a new Advocate Health Care hospital, expanded parkland, and investments in workforce education programs from K-12 through postsecondary levels at institutions such as City Colleges of Chicago and Chicago State University.
