IQM Installs First Quantum Computer in Asia-Pacific, Expands into South Korea

IQM Quantum Computers has announced the deployment of its first Asia-Pacific (APAC) quantum computer at Chungbuk National University (CBNU) in South Korea, along with plans to open a new office in Seoul by June 2025. The installation of the IQM Spark—a 5-qubit superconducting quantum system—was completed within four months, marking a key milestone in the company’s regional expansion and its strategy to localize quantum infrastructure for academic and industrial use.

The Seoul office, led by newly appointed Country Manager Youngsim Kim, will serve as a regional hub for collaboration with Korean universities, high-performance computing centers, and enterprises. IQM aims to support South Korea’s national quantum strategy, positioning itself as a key contributor to the development of a local quantum ecosystem and talent pipeline. The initiative builds on IQM’s existing presence in Singapore and reinforces its goal to accelerate quantum computing adoption in APAC.

CBNU intends to use the system for applied R&D and interdisciplinary education, with a broader mission to integrate quantum computing into emerging technology sectors. The installation reflects IQM’s model of delivering on-premises, full-stack superconducting systems, aligned with national and institutional strategies worldwide.
