Keyfactor and IBM Consulting have introduced a joint solution designed to improve cryptographic visibility and accelerate the transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQC). The collaboration integrates Keyfactor’s tools for cryptographic discovery and certificate lifecycle automation with IBM Consulting’s governance frameworks and quantum-safe migration methodologies. The initiative is intended to assist enterprises in identifying cryptographic assets across fragmented on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments to mitigate operational and regulatory risks.
The technical core of the solution provides automated discovery to generate a comprehensive Cryptographic Bill of Materials (CBOM). It utilizes the IBM Quantum Safe Migration Orchestrator to provide risk scoring and prioritized remediation plans based on visibility insights from Keyfactor. Additionally, the integration includes Keyfactor’s PQC-ready Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and centralized signing tools—specifically EJBCA and SignServer—to automate certificate management and reduce the manual processes often associated with system outages and audit gaps.
The joint offering also focuses on establishing sustainable operating models, such as Cryptographic Centers of Excellence (CCoEs). IBM Consulting contributes governance frameworks and training to drive long-term “crypto-agility,” ensuring organizations can adapt to evolving standards from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and global regulatory bodies. This phased modernization path aims to transition enterprises from reactive cryptographic management to a governed, automated posture ready for the deployment of quantum-resistant algorithms.
