According to a recent article in the Newport Daily News, the proposed Entanglement Research Institute (eRI) which is slated to be constructed in Newport, Rhode Island indicates they will be purchasing and installing quantum computers from both D-Wave and Rigetti for research and applications development. The eRI is planning on building a 25,000 to 40,000 “Quantum and Alternative Computing Center” on 5.3 acres of land located in the city of Newport. The project is backed by the city and several corporate partners and they will work in collaboration with the University of Rhode Island. The estimated investment for this project is $55 million during the first 12 to 15 months and then up to $120 million in total with an estimated employment of 52-68 people in its first year of operation. Since construction of the permanent facility will take between 18 and 24 months, eRI plans on housing the quantum processors in a temporary facility until the permanent one is ready.
