We’ve seen many situations where a hybrid classical/quantum approach to solving a computation problem provides better results than a pure quantum approach alone. To this end, D-Wave has just released a developer preview of an open-sourced software package that facilitates this type of programming between a classical computer and the D-Wave 2000Q quantum annealer.

The package provides three key items of functionality:

  • Hybrid approaches to combining quantum and classical compute resources
  • Evaluation of a portfolio of algorithmic components and problem-decomposition strategies
  • Experimentation with workflow structures and parameters to obtain the best application results
