ID Quantique (IDQ) announced a plan to have SK Telecom invest $65 Million into their company to accelerate development of IDQ’s quantum technologies for the IoT and telecom markets. SK Telecom is the largest mobile operator in Korea and had previously invested $2 Million in 2016. Although ownership details and timing of the transaction were not described in the IDQ press release, ZDNET is reporting that when completed, this investment will give SK Telecom a greater than 50% ownership stake in IDQ. SK Telecom had previously established in 2011 a quantum technology laboratory to explore usage of quantum cryptography in wireless communications networks. As part of this deal, this laboratory will now become part of IDQ. For more details you can view the press release issued by IDQ here.
