U.S. Government Issues a New RFI and Reopens Another One

The U.S. government’s Department of Energy has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to establish two or more Quantum Information Science Centers.  The inputs will be used to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) seeking applications for two or more DOE QIS Centers to support the National Quantum Initiative enacted by Congress in December 2018, and to accelerate the transformational advances in basic science and quantum-based technology. The purpose of these Centers will be to push the current state-of-the-art science and technology toward realizing the full potential of quantum-based applications, from computing, to communication, to sensing. The deadline for comments is July 5, 2019 and you can view the RFI here.

The reopened RFI concerns the National Strategic Overview for Quantum Information Science. This RFI is asking for suggestions on ways the government can address the specific policies described in the National Strategic Overview for Quantum Information Science report.  Responders are asked to frame their response around eight questions as shown in the RFI. As we reported in our article about the original RFI, it was issued in December 11, 2018 with a deadline of January 25, 2019. The submission deadline for this new RFI is July 29, 2019 and you can view the RFI here.
