Oxford Ionics
Oxford Ionics, a leader in trapped-ion quantum computing, announced a breakthrough in quantum state preparation and measurement (SPAM), achieving world-record fidelities of 99.9993%. The novel SPAM protocol, developed in collaboration with the University of Oxford’s Department of Physics, delivers a 13x reduction in errors compared to previous approaches.
This result further solidifies Oxford Ionics’ position as a leader in quantum computing, having already set records in single- and two-qubit gate fidelities. The new SPAM protocol is designed to detect and discard incorrectly prepared qubits, significantly enhancing quantum system reliability.
Oxford Ionics’ unique ‘Electronic Qubit Control’ system, which uses electronics instead of lasers, enables the rapid scaling of quantum chips, positioning the company to drive commercial impact in the quantum computing industry.
An announcement from Oxford Ionics about this achievement is available here. and a technical paper about the novel protocol they used to achieve this has been posted on arXiv here.
