Quandela and Mila Collaborate to Advance Quantum Machine Learning Research

Quandela, a photonic quantum computing company, and Mila, the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, have announced a partnership. This collaboration is set to explore the potential of hybrid technologies that combine machine learning and quantum computing, with a strategic focus on the development and evaluation of Quantum Machine Learning (QML) models.

The collaboration between Quandela and Mila will concentrate on four primary areas. These include benchmarking the performance of QML models on structured data against classical approaches, and identifying the conditions under which quantum methods might offer advantages in terms of accuracy, resource utilization, and scalability. The partnership also aims to develop solutions to address challenges associated with training quantum models, and to conduct experimental validation through both simulation-based studies and experiments on real quantum hardware to assess QML’s potential in applications.

This partnership marks a further step in Quandela’s expansion in Canada, building on its recent installation of a quantum computer in Sherbrooke. This growing presence indicates Quandela’s commitment to contributing to the development of the Canadian quantum ecosystem. The intersection of artificial intelligence and quantum computing is considered a field with potential for enriching current machine learning paradigms. Mila, founded by Professor Yoshua Bengio and supported by the Government of Canada through the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy, provides a research environment for this collaboration.
