D-Wave Quantum Inc. and the University of Southern California (USC) have announced the renewal of their multiyear partnership, extending USC’s hosting of a U.S.-based Advantage™ quantum system. The system, housed within the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, facilitates ongoing exploration and adoption of annealing quantum computing solutions for businesses, researchers, and government entities. USC’s extensive research efforts on D-Wave’s quantum hardware have produced significant results on the performance and application of annealing quantum computing. D-Wave has been working with USC for over 10 years and this relationship has provided organizations with access to a U.S. based quantum annealing processor via D-Wave’s Leap™ quantum cloud service for developing quantum solutions to their problems.
USC’s research efforts include establishing coherent quantum evolution at large scale, developing error correction methods for quantum annealing, and exploring quantum machine learning for addressing critical challenges like Higgs-boson detection. This collaboration supports USC’s role as a quantum research hub and aligns with USC President Carol Folt’s Frontiers of Computing initiative, aiming to advance technologies such as AI, robotics, and quantum computing. The partnership, which began in 2011 with the establishment of the Quantum Computing Center (QCC) at the USC Information Sciences Institute, underscores USC’s commitment to quantum research.
