Elmos and ID Quantique Collaborate to Develop World’s Smallest Quantum Random Number Generator

Elmos Semiconductor SE, a leading automotive semiconductor supplier, and ID Quantique (IDQ), a global leader in quantum cybersecurity, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop the world’s smallest monolithically integrated Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG). The 2mm x 2mm QRNG chip leverages quantum principles to generate high-quality randomness, ensuring robust cryptographic security against cyber threats, including temperature variations, physical pressure, and electromagnetic interference.

The partnership combines Elmos’ expertise in semiconductor development with IDQ’s quantum technology leadership. Early prototypes demonstrate ultra-low power consumption, fast start-up times, and scalable key rates, making the solution ideal for automotive, IoT, and communication industries. The QRNG will be available as a standalone IC or through IP licensing, broadening its application across various CMOS technologies. This collaboration highlights both companies’ commitment to advancing cybersecurity in the quantum era.
