Fraunhofer IAF Acquires Europe’s First Room-Temperature Quantum Accelerator from Quantum Brilliance, Powered by NVIDIA CUDA-Q

Quantum Brilliance (QB) has sold its first room-temperature quantum accelerator in Europe to Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics IAF (Fraunhofer IAF). This 19-inch rack-mountable system, the Quantum Development Kit 2.0 (QB-QDK2.0), leverages diamond-based qubits, avoiding the need for expensive cooling systems. The purchase enhances Fraunhofer IAF’s quantum computing capabilities, furthering its research into nitrogen-vacancy center technologies and hybrid quantum-classical algorithms.

Fraunhofer IAF will integrate the system with QB’s Qristal SDK and Emulator, which simulate quantum computing back-ends using NVIDIA’s CUDA-Q platform. This builds on the institute’s existing collaboration with Quantum Brilliance, including projects like DE BRILL. The QB-QDK2.0 pairs Quantum Brilliance’s quantum processor with NVIDIA GPUs and CPUs in a compact hybrid compute node, supporting applications like quantum machine learning and AI integration.

The deployment will be supported by SVA System Vertrieb Alexander GmbH, providing tailored high-performance computing (HPC) integration. Fraunhofer IAF’s acquisition follows Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s purchase of the same system, underlining the growing global adoption of room-temperature quantum accelerators.

Quantum Brilliance aims to expand its diamond-based quantum technology to scalable, energy-efficient applications worldwide, enabling integration with both HPC systems and everyday devices.
