IonQ Demonstrates Hybrid Quantum Workflow with NVIDIA’s CUDA-Q

IonQ announced an industry-first demonstration integrating its quantum computing hardware with NVIDIA’s CUDA-Q platform. Presented at SC24, the workflow focuses on molecular electronic structure calculations, with potential applications in drug discovery and chemistry. This achievement reinforces IonQ’s vision of combining quantum and classical computing for seamless hybrid deployments.

Using the NVIDIA CUDA-Q platform alongside IonQ’s Forte quantum processor and A100 Tensor Core GPUs, the workflow exemplifies how quantum processing units (QPUs) can work with classical accelerated computing. The demonstration highlights the resource efficiency of IonQ’s approach for solving complex problems like molecular modeling, showcasing the practicality of hybrid quantum-classical systems in commercial and scientific domains.

IonQ’s Hybrid Services suite facilitates such integration, offering tools for building quantum-accelerated applications with support for cloud and on-prem environments. Prebuilt solvers and compatibility with CUDA-Q kernels simplify application development, positioning IonQ as a leader in scalable quantum solutions.

NVIDIA’s Elica Kyoseva emphasized the importance of combining AI and quantum computing for groundbreaking applications, while IonQ’s Dean Kassmann highlighted the potential to solve previously unsolvable problems.
