Quantum Machines and Rigetti Automate Quantum Computer Calibration Using AI

Quantum Machines and Rigetti Computing successfully used AI-powered tools to automate the calibration of a 9-qubit Rigetti Novera™ quantum processor (QPU) integrated with Quantum Machines’ advanced control system, OPX1000. This milestone was achieved during the “AI for Quantum Calibration Challenge” at the Israeli Quantum Computing Center (IQCC), with contributions from Quantum Elements and Qruise.

The AI tools demonstrated remarkable efficiency:

  • Quantum Elements achieved 99.9% single-qubit and 98.5% two-qubit gate fidelity.
  • Qruise simultaneously fine-tuned all nine qubits, reducing calibration times significantly.

These results are pivotal as traditional quantum calibration is labor-intensive, involving complex parameter tuning that grows exponentially with the number of qubits. Dr. Yonatan Cohen, CTO of Quantum Machines, emphasized that scaling quantum systems to thousands of qubits will demand such advanced AI-driven solutions.

This achievement also highlights the increasing collaboration in quantum computing. NVIDIA’s DGX Quantum system powered real-time AI optimization for this effort, furthering Quantum Machines’ prior work with NVIDIA on reinforcement learning for quantum control. Both Quantum Elements and Qruise have joined Quantum Machines’ Novera QPU Partner Program to support future advancements.
