QuEra Computing, a leading company in neutral-atom quantum computing, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). This agreement, dated September 6, builds upon an earlier contract from April 2024, under which QuEra will deliver a state-of-the-art 256 qubit digital quantum computer to be installed alongside AIST’s ABCI-Q supercomputer in Japan. The MOU calls for QuEra to manage the cloud service for this machine so that AIST, AIST collaborators, and other customers around the world can access the machine.
As part of the collaboration, QuEra will establish a cloud-based platform to provide remote access to the quantum computer for researchers and external users. The platform will be integrated with AIST’s HPC resources, creating a hybrid computing environment that combines the power of ABCI-Q and QuEra’s neutral atom quantum computer. Additionally, the partnership will explore the use of optical materials and components to enhance quantum hardware and standardize processes for future supply chain resilience.
This strengthened collaboration reflects the growing demand for quantum technology in industrial applications. By advancing hybrid quantum-HPC solutions and developing next-generation hardware, QuEra and AIST aim to foster new technological breakthroughs and expand the market for quantum computing.
