Results Released from the 2024 Unitary Fund’s Quantum Open Source Survey

The Unitary Fund has released the results of its annual Quantum Open Source Survey (QOSS). It contains responses collected from over 1100 respondents around the world during the survey’s open period from September 16 to October 31, 2024. (See our previous article encouraging people to response to the survey here.) The survey requested responses in the areas shown below.

  • Experience
  • Cloud services
  • Full-stack development platforms, compilers, and simulators
  • Software for applications and tools
  • User experience
  • Open Source Software (OSS) Development & Research
  • Community

Questions probed such topices as who is using quantum computing, why they are using quantum computing, what tools and cloud services they are using, how their 2024 usage compares versus 2023, usage plans for 2025, and many other things.

  • Country of Residence: United States, Canada, India, Germany, United Kingdom
  • Types of Research Respondent Performs: Algorithm Development, Application Development, Circuit Development & Optimization, Quantum Physics Simulation, Software Engineering
  • Most Popular Cloud Platforms: IBM Quantum, Amazon Braket, Xanadu, Google, Microsoft Azure Quantum
  • Most Popular Development Platforms: Qiskit, Pennylane, Cirq, Amazon Braket SDK, cuQuantum
  • Issues Sometimes Encountered: Poor Documentation, Pricing, Incompatibilities with Current Stack, Tool Does not Exist
