Toshiba and Numana have announced a strategic partnership to enhance the Kirq quantum communication testbed in Quebec. This collaboration will improve the testbed’s real-world telecom-grade infrastructure, increasing its capacity and distance capabilities. Leveraging Toshiba’s Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology, the initiative aims to secure communications across Quebec’s key cities.
The Kirq testbed, currently operational in Sherbrooke, will expand with additional hubs in Montreal by summer 2024 and Quebec City by early 2025. This multi-hub network utilizes Toshiba’s state-of-the-art QKD equipment within a multi-vendor open testbed network, promoting a robust and adaptable infrastructure. The partnership will accelerate Toshiba’s system development and testing, providing early adopters with real-life conditions to test use cases on the Kirq platform.
Hiroaki Tezuka from Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation and Jacques Mc Neill from Numana will present the strategic importance of the Kirq network at the Inside Quantum Technology Conference in Vancouver on June 6, 2024.
