IonQ has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Global Research and Development Center for Business by Quantum-AI Technology (G-QuAT), a division of Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration focused on advancing quantum computing capabilities in Japan. G-QuAT is tasked with developing hybrid quantum-AI technologies and promoting quantum applications in industrial and research contexts.
The MOU outlines the intent for G-QuAT to obtain access to IonQ’s Forte-class quantum computers via the IonQ Cloud. This access is expected to support joint research and technical development efforts across a range of quantum computing use cases. The collaboration is positioned to facilitate experimentation, benchmarking, and application development using IonQ’s trapped-ion architecture and cloud-based tools.
The partnership aligns with Japan’s national investment in quantum computing infrastructure and aims to contribute to the development of quantum applications through international cooperation. The MOU is non-binding and forms part of IonQ’s broader strategy to expand engagement with public research institutions in the Asia-Pacific region.
