
Equal1 and Q-CTRL have announced a partnership to integrate Boulder Opal Scale Up infrastructure software into Equal1’s silicon-based quantum computers. This integration is designed to automate the calibration and “boot-up” sequences of the Bell-series systems, aiming to remove the requirement for manual intervention by specialized engineering teams. By transitioning these processes to an autonomous software stack, the companies intend to facilitate the deployment of rack-mounted quantum hardware directly into enterprise data centers and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
The integrated platform provides several operational features focused on system uptime and reliability. Autonomous calibration handles the initial tune-up of hardware devices and quantum logic gates, while run-time performance management monitors the system in real-time to correct drifts during long-duration workloads. Additionally, the software is designed for secure local deployment, allowing the autonomous control layer to operate without external internet access. The systems are also built for compatibility with Fire Opal, Q-CTRL’s error-mitigating software suite, which allows for performance-optimized circuit execution.
Equal1 utilizes a CMOS-compatible silicon spin qubit architecture, which allows quantum processors to be manufactured using established semiconductor fabrication techniques. The partnership leverages Q-CTRL’s concept of “quantum containerization,” a virtualization approach intended to make quantum processors as accessible as classical accelerators like GPUs. By achieving a compact, rack-mounted form factor with a self-optimizing software stack, the Bell-1 system is designed to function as a plug-and-play component within standard IT infrastructure.
