Equal1 has announced the release of RacQ, a silicon-spin quantum computing system designed for integration into standard 19-inch data center racks. An evolution of the company’s Bell-1 server, the RacQ is engineered to operate as a peer-level resource alongside classical hardware. The system is powered by the UnityQ quantum system-on-chip (SoC), which is fabricated using standard CMOS semiconductor processes. This design allows the quantum processing unit (QPU) to be manufactured within the existing global chip supply chain while maintaining a form factor compatible with a standard 42U frame.
Hybrid Quantum-Classical Computing (HQCC) Architecture
The RacQ architecture supports Hybrid Quantum-Classical Computing (HQCC), a model where specific computational subroutines are offloaded to the QPU while pre- and post-processing tasks are handled by classical servers. This offloading strategy is intended for optimization and simulation workloads in finance, logistics, and materials science. In a technical collaboration with Dell Technologies, Equal1 demonstrated the integration of a RacQ unit with a Dell PowerEdge R770 server and PowerSwitch networking. The prototype utilized the Dell Quantum Intelligent Orchestrator to manage task scheduling across the heterogeneous compute environment, providing a template for QPU deployment within existing high-performance computing (HPC) stacks.
Operational Specifications and Infrastructure Integration
The RacQ is designed to function within conventional data center infrastructure without specialized facilities. The system operates on a standard single-phase electrical socket with a total power consumption of 1600 W. To facilitate qubit operation, the unit includes an integrated, closed-cycle cryocooler that maintains an internal base temperature of 0.3 Kelvin. This self-contained cooling system eliminates the need for external liquid cryogenics or specialized plumbing. The complete system weighs 400 kg, allowing it to be installed and powered on within a standard data center environment using the same protocols as classical high-density server hardware.
