Pasqal Transitions €50 Million Q-PLANET Pilot Line into Execution Phase for European Neutral-Atom Chips

Neutral-atom quantum hardware provider Pasqal (NASDAQ: PSQL) has announced the transition of the Q-PLANET (Quantum Pilot Line for production of Advanced chips for Neutral atom European Technologies) initiative into its operational execution phase. Three months following its kick-off meeting in Brussels, Pasqal is leading a 28-partner consortium spanning 11 European countries to construct a domestic semiconductor and photonic supply chain for neutral-atom quantum computing, sensing, and communications.

Co-funded with €50 million (~$57.2 million USD) over three years by the European Union’s Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) alongside national and regional agencies (including France 2030, ERDF, Business Finland, FFG, and the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts Baden-Württemberg), Q-PLANET targets the industrialization of chip-scale components. Technical deliverables focus on developing integrated laser sources across four critical optical wavelengths (461 nm, 698 nm, 795 nm, and 1013 nm), atom chips for quantum processors and sensors, microfabricated vapor cells for atomic clocks, and standardized Process Design Kits (PDKs) and Assembly Design Kits (ADKs) for commercial semiconductor foundries.

[ Q-PLANET Pilot Line Execution Framework & Technical Scope ]
Technical StreamOperational Framework & Pasqal RoleDeliverables & European Supply Chain Impact
• Funding & Governance• €50 million total project volume (3-year mandate)
• EU Chips JU and national top-up funding
• Managed by Chips JU under Horizon Europe; coordinated by Pasqal across 28 European partners
• Chip-Based Laser Sources• Integrated lasers at 461 nm, 698 nm, 795 nm, and 1013 nm
• Pasqal directly leads 1013 nm stream development
• Establishes scalable optical trapping and gate control lasers for neutral-atom hardware
• Foundry Standardization• Process Design Kits (PDKs)
• Assembly Design Kits (ADKs)
• Transitions lab-scale photonic and vapor cell prototyping to commercial semiconductor fabrication lines

Pasqal serves as both lead project coordinator and end-user validator for microfabricated vapor cells and laser sources integrated across its neutral-atom quantum processing units (QPUs). The initiative establishes standardized manufacturing processes to accelerate industrialization, supporting upcoming European quantum infrastructure deployments across HPC supercomputing centers (TGCC, Forschungszentrum Jülich, CINECA) and commercial sectors including drug discovery and advanced materials science.
