PsiQuantum and Lockheed Martin have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the development of quantum computing applications in aerospace and defense. The collaboration will focus on developing quantum algorithms for real-world aerospace and defense applications for the U.S. government and allies.
The joint effort will leverage PsiQuantum’s software suite, Construct, a secure, end-to-end platform for designing, analyzing, and optimizing algorithms for Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing (FTQC). Lockheed Martin will lead the development of defense-specific quantum applications, shaping how future hardware can be employed in real-world missions.
The collaboration is intended to address the computational difficulty of modeling complex phenomena such as fluid dynamics, stress-strain behavior, propulsion, heat transfer, and quantum mechanical interactions. These simulations, which involve quantum chemistry and partial differential equations (PDEs), are foundational to modeling aircraft and aerospace systems.
Mark Brunner, Executive Vice President for PsiQuantum’s U.S. Public Sector team, noted that developing and optimizing fault-tolerant algorithms now is crucial for realizing the full promise of quantum technology. This collaboration follows PsiQuantum’s recent announcement of securing over $1 billion in funding to build utility-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers.
