Quantum Hardware Outlook 2023 – Free Summary

2023-12-14T17:42:12-08:00

The full report is available for purchase on the GQI website at this link CLICK HERE. The performance of today’s quantum hardware remains modest, and despite the hard work of innovators that is not going to change overnight. Each qubit platform faces its own significant challenges as vendors seek to scale up. But if we look at the details we can see that underlying progress remains strong across the hardware stack. Progress on error correcting codes must not be neglected. Innovation there has the potential to disrupt our standard assumptions about what it takes to build a quantum computer. The strategic [...]

European Project Artemis Launches to Explore Using Neural Networks for Quantum Error Correction and Optimal Control

2023-05-09T13:13:36-07:00

Participants in the three-year project include Quantum Machines, Alice&Bob, and research groups from Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon and the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light. The goal of the project will be to find ways to leverage neural networks to help identify new strategies for quantum control. The project will have several stages. The first stage will use neural networks to determine the appropriate control pulses for creating and manipulating specific qubit states. Following stages will use neural networks to find the best quantum error correction protocols to prepare, measure and act on multiple qubits. This project will leverage [...]

Quantum Hardware Outlook 2022

2022-08-15T22:18:31-07:00

By David Shaw, Fact Based InsightThis article has been republished with permission. The original can be found on the Fact Based Insight web site here. Big ticket investments have created a growing number of quantum unicorns. Chinese strides with photonic and superconducting qubits have grabbed attention. Trapped ions have shone with demonstrations of logical qubits. But who is winning the race to build a practical quantum computer? Where should we start in assessing the most important quantum hardware developments? The challenges and opportunities faced by different qubit platforms vary markedly. Increasingly we have to understand the goals being prioritised by each company and [...]

Amazon’s Qubits – Part 1

2021-07-02T17:20:26-07:00

By Andre Saraiva, UNSW For those eagle-eyed readers who have been viewing the Jobs page on the Quantum Computing Report, you would have known that Amazon has been advertising for quantum hardware engineers at the AWS’ Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA (inside Caltech’s campus) in Pasadena, California for most of this year. We didn’t know exactly what they were working on, but now Amazon has announced their approach in the form of a 118-page-long blueprint for an in-house quantum computer, They are now openly in the race for qubit fabrication and if you think they enter the race late, [...]
