Ueno Bank, Paraguay’s largest bank, has announced its transition to quantum-resistant cybersecurity to safeguard digital operations and digitally signed documents for its over 2.2 million customers. The bank has implemented a solution from SignQuantum, which utilizes QANplatform’s quantum-resistant blockchain technology. The implementation is being supported by ITTI, the exclusive Latin American distributor for SignQuantum.
The solution is a quantum-resistant software add-on for digitally signed documents that ensures their integrity and authenticity. It uses quantum-resistant digital signatures and securely uploads document hashes to QANplatform’s blockchain for immutable proof of timing. This is intended to protect sensitive data from potential falsification through “time travel” attacks that could be performed with future quantum computers.
This implementation is positioned as a step in the finance sector’s adoption of quantum-resistant technologies to protect internal operations and customer data. Juan Manuel Gustale, President at Ueno Bank, noted that the adoption of this technology mitigates future risks and builds confidence with customers. Luis Angulo, Vice President of ITTI, commented that the successful implementation is a signal to other financial and technology sectors in Latin America, where ITTI is working to expand access to this technology.
