D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE: QBTS) and Davidson Technologies, Inc. have announced that D-Wave’s Advantage2™ annealing quantum computer is now operational at Davidson’s headquarters in Huntsville, Alabama. This launch marks a milestone in a multi-year agreement to accelerate quantum computing adoption and deployment among U.S. government agencies.
The Advantage2 system is intended to address mission-critical U.S. government problems in national defense and is expected to eventually run sensitive applications. It is D-Wave’s second U.S.-based annealing quantum computer and the first installed in Alabama. Davidson and D-Wave are already exploring quantum use cases in areas such as radar detection, resource deployment, military logistics optimization, materials science, AI, and national security.
The Advantage2 processor features the Zephyr™ topology with 4,400+ qubits and 20-way connectivity. It is engineered to deliver a reported twofold increase in coherence, a 40% increase in energy scale, and a 75% reduction in noise compared to its predecessor, which supports higher-quality solutions for complex calculations. The system is available for customer use now via D-Wave’s Leap™ real-time quantum cloud service.
The deployment reinforces the role of the Huntsville region in advanced technology and national defense, with Davidson positioned near Redstone Arsenal. Local lawmakers, including Senator Tommy Tuberville, affirmed that the system will help develop quantum-powered applications that can transform how the military solves national security challenges.
