D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE: QBTS) has announced the formation of a new dedicated business unit focused on driving the adoption of its quantum computing products and services within the U.S. government. This unit will be led by Jack Sears Jr., who joins D-Wave’s executive team as Vice President of U.S. Government Solutions.
The formation of the unit is a direct response to increasing calls from U.S. Department of War (DoW) leadership—including the Undersecretary of War for Research and Engineering and the Secretary of the Army—to develop quantum applications addressing logistics and transportation needs. Sears brings over 25 years of experience in defense contracting, including overseeing business development and managing sales pipelines exceeding $3 billion.
In his role, Sears will oversee government-related go-to-market efforts and application development, as well as the specialized product development needed for secure systems that meet federal requirements. This move formalizes D-Wave’s focus on national security and defense challenges, leveraging the company’s annealing quantum technology.
The formation of the unit follows the recent operational launch of D-Wave’s Advantage2™ quantum computer at Davidson Technologies, Inc.‘s headquarters in Alabama. This system is intended to address mission-critical U.S. government problems and eventually run sensitive applications.
