Firgun Ventures, a new London-based venture capital firm, has announced the successful first close of its inaugural fund at $70 million. The financing round was backed by several investors, including the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), Ilyas Khan (Founder of Quantinuum), and several unnamed family offices. The firm is targeting a total fund size of $250 million.
Firgun Ventures specializes in early growth-stage quantum technology investments (Series A/B), aiming to bridge the funding gap that often challenges quantum entrepreneurs as they transition from research to commercial scale. The firm is led by founders Dr. Kris Naudts and Zeynep Koruturk (a former Goldman Sachs executive) and is supported by advisors including Prof. Mete Atatüre, Head of Cambridge University’s Cavendish Lab.
The fund’s launch is intended to drive commercial breakthroughs in the quantum sector, with a primary focus on supporting companies in the UK due to the country’s strong academic foundation. This move reinforces the growing trend of sovereign wealth funds and strategic investors committing capital to the scaling phase of quantum technology worldwide.
