IonQ (NYSE: IONQ), a quantum computing and networking company, has announced a strategic collaboration with Emergence Quantum, an Australian research and development company focused on quantum hardware innovation. This initiative is intended to support IonQ’s global expansion roadmap across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and to strengthen Australia’s quantum capabilities.

The collaboration will expand on existing advancements in ion trap technology. It specifically focuses on the co-development of next-generation electronics and materials, including the design and simulation of application-specific integrated circuits for qubit control. The teams will also work to reduce hardware complexity while scaling system capacity, and explore new materials and deposition techniques to enhance ion trap performance. Emergence Quantum was established by former members of Microsoft’s quantum team, contributing expertise in systems engineering, quantum control, and hardware integration.

This initiative is positioned to contribute to Australia’s quantum industry by engaging local experts and institutions in advancing scalable, high-performance quantum computing and networking. Prof. David Reilly, CEO and co-founder of Emergence Quantum, commented that the collaboration aims to accelerate Australia’s quantum development and growth by integrating international investment with local expertise.
