
IonQ (NYSE: IONQ), a quantum computing and networking company, has announced the formation of IonQ Federal, an organization dedicated to integrating IonQ’s technologies for the U.S. government and its allies. The new organization is intended to unify the company’s government-facing quantum networking and quantum computing initiatives to provide value at speed and scale.
Robert Cardillo, who has served on IonQ’s Board of Directors since 2024, has been appointed as Executive Chairman of IonQ Federal. In this role, he will lead strategic operations and partnerships to enhance the use of IonQ’s applications for government agencies. Cardillo previously served as the Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and as a national intelligence advisor to the President.
IonQ Federal is positioned to address the demand for quantum advantage in the federal and defense sectors. IonQ reports having over $100 million in contracts with the United States Air Force Research Lab and work with DARPA, Oak Ridge National Labs, and the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS). The formation of the new organization is intended to provide dedicated resources to these government customers and increase engagement with federal programs.
