IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) has announced the successful completion of its acquisition of Vector Atomic, a quantum sensing company. The all-stock transaction is intended to expand and integrate Vector Atomic’s advanced precision atomic clocks, inertial sensors, and synchronization hardware into IonQ’s quantum technology platform, which already includes computing and networking.

Vector Atomic brings to IonQ a team of over 75 employees and a portfolio of 29 pending and issued patents. The company’s sensing technology has been deployed and field-validated for applications in space, submarines, and airborne systems, and it has secured over $200 million in government contracts. The technology is also noted for its ultra-precise picosecond timing.

Niccolo de Masi, Chairman and CEO of IonQ, commented that the acquisition is a strategic expansion toward fully integrated quantum systems that deliver applications across multiple industries. Dr. Jamil Abo-Shaeer, CEO and Co-founder of Vector Atomic, noted that joining IonQ will accelerate the company’s mission to expand into broader markets and integrate its technologies into new systems.
