Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), through its national research institute MIMOS, has partnered with South Korean quantum technology company SDT to establish the Quantum Intelligence Centre, the country’s first quantum technology hub. The center, inaugurated on February 25, 2025, will focus on quantum computing research and development (R&D) in areas such as AI, security, and bio-technology. It aims to drive high-impact research, cultivate skilled personnel, and position Malaysia as a key player in the global quantum landscape by 2035.

The Quantum Intelligence Centre is part of Malaysia’s National Science, Technology & Innovation Policy (DSTIN) 2021-2030 and aligns with the country’s goal of becoming a quantum hub in the ASEAN region. SDT, a leader in quantum control equipment and quantum computing development, will play a central role in the establishment and operation of the center. The company collaborates with research institutions like KIST and KRISS, as well as universities such as Seoul National University and Korea University, to advance quantum technologies based on silicon spin, superconductors, and neutral atoms.

In addition to the Quantum Intelligence Centre, MIMOS and SDT have signed a collaboration agreement to establish Quantum Valley, a dynamic innovation hub designed to attract international companies, startups, and investors. This hub will focus on building a robust quantum supply chain ecosystem, equipped with world-class infrastructure to foster cross-border collaborations and accelerate the commercialization of quantum technologies.

The MIMOS Quantum Day 2025 event, themed “Shaping the Future with Quantum Intelligence,” brought together over 200 participants, including researchers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, to discuss advancements in quantum computing, communication, and security. The event highlighted Malaysia’s commitment to advancing quantum technologies and strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly with South Korea, in high-tech fields.
