Orientum, a quantum software company, and Thailand’s EQ Tech Energy (EQ Tech) have signed a strategic business agreement (MOU) to develop a “quantum electric grid” based on quantum computing. This collaboration targets next-generation power infrastructure innovation within the Asia Pacific region. Through this MOU, the companies plan to demonstrate the technical feasibility of quantum electrical grids and subsequently implement a phased commercialization roadmap.

The initial phase of the collaboration involves the joint development of a simulation-based power grid optimization platform. This platform is intended to lead to a demonstration project for application within actual power grids. EQ Tech will provide a verification testbed utilizing Thailand’s smart energy industry base, while Orientum will contribute quantum computing software and algorithm optimization technology. A key aspect of this collaboration is the application of “Quantum Machine Learning,” which aims to overcome performance limitations of existing AI models by applying high-dimensional optimization algorithms executable on quantum computers for energy demand forecasting, supply adjustment, and distributed energy resource control.

This initiative addresses the growing complexity in power infrastructure, particularly with the proliferation of microgrids and renewable energy systems in the Asia Pacific region. The “quantum electric grid” is designed to optimize operations, enhance efficiency, and strengthen the security levels of power grids, including real-time calculation for power plant operations, storage devices, and electric vehicles. Quantum cryptography technology is expected to contribute to hacking prevention and stable communication within this framework. This collaboration is part of a broader global expansion strategy, with plans to review partnerships in other regions actively undergoing energy structural transformation. A joint technology demonstration is planned for the second half of this year, with full-scale demonstration projects for smart cities and industrial complexes to commence next year.
