Q-CTRL, a provider of quantum infrastructure software, has announced the availability of its Fire Opal performance management software on Rigetti’s latest 84-qubit Ankaa-3 quantum computer, accessible via the Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services (QCS) platform. This integration addresses the challenge of error suppression in quantum computing, enhancing the usability and capabilities of Rigetti’s superconducting hardware.
Fire Opal improves the performance of quantum computers by autonomously suppressing errors, which are a major impediment to the commercial adoption of quantum computing. This integration allows quantum developers, researchers, and enterprise users to directly access Fire Opal’s quantum error-suppression and performance-enhancement capabilities on Rigetti’s Ankaa-3 system.
Early results demonstrate significant performance improvements. For example, BlueQubit observed correct output in 20-qubit circuits, up from 14 qubits in the default Rigetti configuration, using specially-developed benchmark tests. In a financial portfolio optimization use-case with Nasdaq data, the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer saw a 32x improvement in solution quality. Rigetti and Q-CTRL view this integration as a crucial step toward achieving practical quantum advantage.
