We previously reported on Fujitsu’s intent to partner with Riken to research superconducting quantum computers and this week they have announced the formal launch of the project. The project is now called the RIKEN RQC – Fujitsu Collaboration Center and is located within the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing in Wako, Saitama, Japan. The project will have a goal of producing a 1000 qubit superconducting quantum computer and it officially began on April 1, 2021 with expectations of finishing by March 31, 2025. The project will include research on both quantum hardware as well as quantum software including error mitigation technologies.
