Roadrunner Venture Studios has been selected by the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) to lead a $25 million quantum initiative. The initiative is designed to accelerate quantum innovation and commercialization in the state. The Roadrunner-led coalition will create a quantum campus in Downtown Albuquerque’s Innovation District, which aims to serve as a national launchpad for quantum startups.

The planned quantum campus will include a multi-node quantum network, dilution refrigerators, a quantum testbed, quantum packaging and demonstration facilities, and a rapid prototyping facility. Roadrunner will launch a new quantum branch of its venture studio, which will include a Founder-in-Residence program to identify and recruit entrepreneurial talent. The studio also intends to attract quantum startups to establish operations in New Mexico and will stand up a dedicated capital network for investing in local quantum startups.

Roadrunner’s coalition includes partners such as Elevate Quantum, national laboratories (Sandia, Los Alamos), quantum startups (QuEra, Maybell, Qunnect, Resonance), academic centers (University of New Mexico), and venture capital firms (DCVC, Playground Global, Quantonation). The New Mexico EDD published a competitive request for proposal (RFP) to select a partner for a quantum venture studio and physical facility.

This initiative is positioned as a blueprint that links research to company formation and commercial infrastructure, with the goal of advancing the U.S. from leadership in science to leadership in execution. The initiative is expected to help the state of New Mexico unlock economic opportunities for its residents and reinforce its emergence as a hub for advanced technology commercialization.
