QFX (trading as Quantum Fabrix Ltd), a UK-based supplier of quantum hardware, has closed a £2 million ($2.7 million USD) seed funding round. The funding was led by Paul Graham, co-founder of Y-Combinator. The capital will support QFX’s mission to deliver modular quantum technologies for computing, sensing, and secure communications.
The company builds on trapped-ion quantum computing research at the University of Oxford, including the development of a foremost networked quantum computing demonstrator. QFX was founded by Associate Professor Dr. Joe Goodwin and researchers from his group, which is developing scalable networked quantum computing architectures combining individual trapped ions with optical microcavities.
The company also announced the appointment of two industry leaders to its executive team: Dr. Timothy Ballance, formerly President – UK at Infleqtion, joins as Chief Executive Officer, and Sadie Mansell, formerly Director of Operations at Infleqtion, joins as Chief Operating Officer. Dr. Joe Goodwin will serve as Chief Technology Officer. The new leadership team is intended to drive the development of next-generation modular quantum technologies.
