Wave Photonics, a Cambridge-based integrated photonics chip design company, has launched its Process Design Kit (PDK) Management Platform. The platform’s first foundry adopter is CORNERSTONE, a silicon photonics rapid prototyping foundry. This new platform is designed to integrate foundry PDKs with major Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools to streamline the design process for photonic integrated circuits (PICs).

The PDK Management Platform provides compatibility with EDA tools from Luceda Photonics, Cadence, and Siemens, as well as the open-source GDSFactory. Foundries can upload their PDKs directly to the platform, which then automatically generates S-parameters for circuit simulation, produces documentation, and packages the PDK for integration. The platform includes features for IP management through a blackboxing feature, NDA tracking, and automated version control. This process is intended to reduce the manual setup for designers and repetitive work for foundries.

The platform is intended to support the advancement of integrated photonics, a field with applications in areas including quantum, optical computing, and sensing. The collaboration with CORNERSTONE aims to build a more connected ecosystem that simplifies access and strengthens PDK management, which supports the development of next-generation photonic devices. Wave Photonics has previously worked on a silicon nitride process for quantum photonics, and its technology is positioned to facilitate PIC designs for a range of challenging applications.
