Cisco, a leading global technology company, has joined the Chicago Quantum Exchange (CQE) as a corporate partner. Cisco’s collaboration will focus on quantum communications and quantum-safe networking through its Cisco Quantum Lab. This partnership aims to leverage the Chicago Quantum Network, which is one of the longest quantum networks in the United States, spanning 124 miles and expanding.
David Awschalom, director of the CQE and Q-NEXT at Argonne National Laboratory, highlighted the potential of this collaboration to advance quantum communication and develop a secure quantum internet. Cisco’s involvement is expected to contribute significantly to national security and financial systems by pioneering revolutionary applications.
Cisco Quantum Lab, located in Santa Monica, California, is dedicated to developing subsystems and systems for quantum communications. The lab supports academic research proposals in quantum networking and security. According to Ramana Kompella, Head of Cisco Research, the company is working on new protocols and techniques to secure classical digital infrastructure against quantum threats, emphasizing quantum-resistant security.
