Infineon Technologies and Quantinuum have announced a strategic partnership to develop next-generation ion trap chips for quantum processing units (QPUs), aimed at scaling quantum computing capabilities to address real-world applications. The collaboration integrates Infineon’s expertise in semiconductor fabrication and integrated photonics with Quantinuum’s leadership in ion-trap quantum computer design and operation.
The partnership will enhance Quantinuum’s trapped-ion systems, which already lead in benchmarks such as 2-qubit gate fidelity and quantum volume. Infineon, leveraging its high-volume processing technologies, will contribute to creating sophisticated ion traps that support larger qubit counts and greater operational fidelity. These developments are critical to advancing fields such as generative chemistry, material science, and AI.
Quantinuum’s roadmap includes achieving universal fault-tolerance by 2029.
