The Government of Canada, through Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), has announced a CA$8.1M ($5.7M USD) investment to bolster Sherbrooke’s quantum technology ecosystem. The funding supports four key organizations: Distriq, the Quebec Digital and Quantum Innovation Platform (PINQ2), the Accélérateur de création d’entreprises technologiques (ACET), and Nord Quantique. This initiative aligns with Canada’s National Quantum Strategy, aimed at strengthening the country’s leadership in quantum technologies.

Distriq, Sherbrooke’s Quantum Innovation Zone, will receive CA$5.2M to equip its shared laboratory, DevTeQ, with state-of-the-art tools for quantum technology development. Additionally, PINQ2 and Distriq will receive CA$750,000 to support the Québec Quantique initiative, promoting Quebec’s quantum cluster globally. ACET, a business incubator affiliated with the Université de Sherbrooke, will use its CA$435,000 funding to enhance support for quantum-focused startups. Meanwhile, NordQuantique, a quantum computing SME specializing in error correction, will receive CA$1.8M to establish an assembly laboratory for manufacturing quantum computers, including the acquisition of dilution refrigerators and quantum control electronics.

Élisabeth Brière, Member of Parliament for Sherbrooke, emphasized the region’s global leadership in quantum innovation, stating, “Sherbrooke’s ecosystem is the envy of the world, and this investment will help develop groundbreaking solutions in medicine, climate change, and more.”
