D-Wave Quantum Inc. and Davidson Technologies have completed the physical assembly of a D-Wave Advantage2 annealing quantum system at Davidson’s Huntsville, Alabama headquarters. The installation, now entering final calibration and readiness testing, represents the first on-premises annealing quantum computer in the state. The system is intended to support secure quantum research focused on national defense use cases, including logistics optimization, space operations, and autonomous systems coordination.
The Advantage2 installation stems from a multi-year agreement between the two companies and is housed in a secure facility built specifically to accommodate quantum systems running sensitive applications. The milestone was marked by a private ribbon-cutting event attended by federal and state officials, highlighting the strategic importance of quantum computing infrastructure for the U.S. Department of Defense. Davidson is also investing in internal R&D and workforce development to support the use of hybrid quantum-classical algorithms tailored to defense needs.
Once calibrated, the Advantage2 system will be fully operationalized under national security protocols. The companies plan to use the system to launch collaborative research with defense agencies, government labs, and academic institutions. The installation contributes to Alabama’s growing role in advanced technology development and positions Huntsville as a regional hub for mission-aligned quantum innovation.
