Amazon Braket has announced the addition of Alpine Quantum Technologies (AQT)’s IBEX Q1 trapped-ion quantum computer to its service, marking the first time a trapped-ion system hosted in the European Union (EU) is available through a major cloud provider. The system is physically located in Innsbruck, Austria, and is accessible through the Europe (Stockholm) Region (eu-north-1), addressing data residency and technological sovereignty requirements for European customers.

The IBEX Q1 system features a 12-qubit fully connected register based on calcium-40 ions. The processor’s performance metrics include a Quantum Volume (QV) of 128 (2⁷), an average two-qubit gate fidelity of 98.7% (error rate ≈ 1.3 × 10⁻²), and an average single-qubit gate fidelity of 99.966%. The all-to-all connectivity eliminates the need for SWAP gates, reducing circuit depth and minimizing error accumulation in quantum algorithms.

The device is engineered for practical deployment: it operates at room temperature (22.0 ± 1.5 °C) and fits into two standard 19-inch racks while consuming less than 2 kW of power. The system supports quantum circuits with up to 2,000 gates and executes over 20,000 circuits per hour, demonstrating a robust execution duty cycle.

The integration provides global users with a high-fidelity platform for applications in fields like chemistry, portfolio optimization, and risk analysis. Access is available for on-demand experimentation and via reservation access (Braket Direct) for time-sensitive workloads.
