Aquark Technologies, a UK-based quantum technology company, has raised €5 million ($5.58 million USD) in seed funding to advance its quantum sensing technology. The round was led by the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF), with participation from EIFO, UKI2S (managed by Future Planet Capital), and MBDA. The funding will help scale Aquark’s innovative, cold atom-based sensors, which are designed to provide precise signals for positioning, navigation, and timing, essential for sectors like defense, telecommunications, and finance.
Aquark’s proprietary quantum sensors address vulnerabilities in GPS systems, which have seen a rise in interference incidents in recent years. The company’s compact, mobile, and power-efficient sensors are suited for use in challenging environments, such as underwater and in the air, offering resilience against GPS jamming and ensuring signal accuracy.
As the first company in the DIANA Defence Accelerator program to receive direct investment from NIF, Aquark’s dual-use technology has both commercial and defence applications. The investment will support the company’s expansion, including team growth and collaborations, and accelerate the commercialisation of its technology.
