D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE: QBTS) has unveiled an updated roadmap for its Leap™ quantum cloud service, aimed at advancing Quantum AI solutions for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). This expansion includes support for quantum-enhanced, energy-efficient AI model training and integrating AI with optimization to address critical customer use cases.
The roadmap outlines three key development areas:
- Quantum Distributions for Generative AI: D-Wave will develop new generative AI architectures utilizing quantum processing unit (QPU) samples that are not classically generated, initially focusing on molecular discovery with potential applications across various generative AI fields.
- Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM) Architectures: The company plans to leverage QPUs to enhance RBM architectures for applications such as cybersecurity, drug discovery, and high-energy physics, aiming to reduce energy consumption in AI model training and execution.
- GPU Integration with Leap Quantum Cloud Service: D-Wave will integrate additional graphics processing unit (GPU) resources into the Leap service to support AI model training alongside optimization workloads, and work on minimizing latency between QPUs and classical computing resources.
Notable use cases include improved protein-DNA binding predictions by researchers in Julich, faster simulations of high-energy particle interactions by TRIUMF, and enhanced RBM model performance by Honda Innovation Lab and Tohoku University.
