D-Wave Quantum Inc. announced several enhancements to its quantum optimization platform during the Qubits 2025 user conference, reflecting rising adoption across industries. The company introduced an upgraded hybrid nonlinear (NL) solver with support for continuous variables and linear interactions, extending its applicability to optimization problems such as budget allocation and resource distribution. These updates complement existing constrained quadratic model (CQM) capabilities and aim to simplify model construction for a broader set of real-world use cases.

D-Wave also unveiled new application areas for its quantum optimization tools, including offer allocation, portfolio optimization, and maintenance repair operations (MRO). These additions expand on established implementations in workforce and production scheduling, and logistics routing. BBVA is currently using D-Wave’s technology in a proof-of-concept integrating quantum optimization and machine learning to improve portfolio robustness under changing macroeconomic conditions. The updates are intended to address increased demand from end users, independent software vendors, and system integrators seeking to apply quantum techniques to operational decision-making challenges.

Customer adoption continues to grow, with new use cases in telecom, academia, and manufacturing. NTT DOCOMO is using D-Wave’s annealing quantum system in production to optimize mobile network performance, reporting a 15% reduction in paging signal congestion at base stations during peak periods. Separately, D-Wave and Ford Otosan recently deployed a quantum-enabled scheduling application in production for vehicle manufacturing. These examples, alongside new solver capabilities, highlight continued momentum in using quantum annealing and hybrid workflows for constrained optimization at commercial scale.
